Poor mans pappy the test

Postby dr.booze » Tue Dec 24, 2013 8:47 pm

Hi all I am getting ready to do a PMP test. The plan is to mix according to the following recipe
Image

68% WL Weller 12
27% Old Weller Antique
5% Spring Water

I have a 1L glass graduated cylinder to mix so that will be

680ml 12yr
270ml WA
50 ml water

I have a bottle of PVW 15 year that will be the comparison. Will let you know how it turns out.

:)

OK after a few weeks of hard winter, we finally did out PMP test. Had a small get together with some friends cooked some KY food to go along with and well here is the results

Test 1 60:40 (WOA/12yr)Image

This is the one we did blind taste tests against the 15 PVW. Our expert tester left the room we mixed and poured and he did pick out the PVW hinting that he could tell is was much Oakyer.

I tested but no blind and agreed. As you can see we used 25ml pipets to mix the small scales and we did 1/2oz pours as we did not want to get hammered (immediately that is)

Test 2 was done first in a small batch and later it was the choice for the mix

This was the
68% WL Weller 12
27% Old Weller Antique
5% Spring Water
mix

I have to say I simply prefer the lower proof, and as the write up on the recipe from this wonder site suggests it is smoother and creamer, I dare say I like it better than the undiluted PVW.

I will stick with this one and can use my cylinder as my decanter as well it has a ground glass lid.

 Look for these bottles for sure for 50 bucks its a nice test .
