Pappy Pinata

At this point, I’m sure you’ve read about the cases of Pappy Van Winkle that were stolen and subsequently recovered. It was in every major publication and whiskey related blog over the past couple of years. The latest source of contention came from the Franklin County Sherriff announcing that the bottles would be auctioned off for charity. The Van Winkles fired back that they wanted the bottles destroyed and rightfully so. This is the same reason the police destroy marijuana seized in drug busts (:)) The bottles were out of their possession and the thieves could have tainted the bottles. The Franklin County Sherriff’s office agreed and will now destroy the bottles.

This is where Franklin County missed an opportunity to use their imagination. You can still use the bottles for charity while destroying them. What about a Pappy Pinata? I’ll pay $100 for a chance to take a baseball bat to a $1,000 bottle of bourbon. If they’re going to get destroyed why not have some fun?
