New Release: Michter’s 25-Year Old Rye
Michter’s just received approval for their 25-year old rye whiskey. Originally released in 2011, Michter’s 25 Rye is on the list of most sought after (and expensive) whiskey’s in the bourbon/whiskey world. Like other limited Michter’s bottles, the 25 rye has taken a hiatus over the last few year. Here’s the new label:
I have to assume that the black and white with be filled in with color on the actual bottle. Three things we don’t yet know. Price, release date, and source. The price will be $750+. This is the whiskey version of walking into a Ferrari dealership. Sure, you’ll never buy one and you will probably never get a chance to drive one either. It’s still fun to look. I had the good fortune to take a private tour of Michters Distillery in Louisville on April 30. I also sampled everything but for Celebration expression. The 25 yo rye was excellent. Great complex nose with spice and honey overtones. And it just got better from there. The mouth feel was a silky coating, warm and spicy with overtones of dried fruits and honey. It drinks incredibley smooth. The finish was amazing with more dried fruits, pepper and honey.
