Review: WhistlePig Boss Hog “Mortimer”
WhistlePig Boss Hog “Mortimer” Rye Whiskey Review
I’m going to jump straight in to the review. If you’re looking for more information about this release check out my post about the WhistlePig Boss Hog Mortimer release here
Boss Hog Mortimer Details:
100% Rye Whiskey
117-124 Proof
Aged nearly 14 years
50 Barrels selected (probably around 6,500 bottles based on a rough calculation)
Retail: $189
Boss Hog Mortimer Review Notes:
Nose: bright ripe cherries, caramel, piney, honey
Taste: sweet spearmint, soft rye notes. Well balanced.
Finish: a little hot with wood and mint
Overall: It feels like deja vu from the Willett XCF review. This is a very good whiskey at a priced at a premium. There are some that won’t buy anything WhistlePig because of their lack of transparency with their marketing. I know WhistlePig has nothing to do with Vermont so if it’s good whiskey and I can find it I’ll buy it. There are others that won’t buy because of the price. I fall more in the latter category. I don’t like rye whiskey enough to use a large chunk of my whiskey budget on ryes. I’m sure there are plenty of people that don’t feel the same as me since Caskers has already sold out

Their whiskeys are overpriced and they’re shady operators to boot. That gets them a double “no”. Next.
