History of the BTAC

Every fall for the past 15 years Buffalo Trace Distillery has pumped out some of the best bourbons and rye whiskies with their Antique Collection (BTAC). Collectively, the Antique Collection has won over major 150 awards from almost every whiskey competition in the world. These awards range from “Whisky of the Year” in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible to Double Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (but you already know how I feel about whiskey competitions). Aside from that, George T. Stagg holds one of the highest honors bestowed upon a bourbon which is Bourbonr’s (my) favorite bourbon. read more

Inventory Update from Buffalo Trace

We’ve all been beaten down with talks of a bourbon shortage so it’s nice every now and then to hear how the distilleries are handling the situation. There’s no earth shattering information here but it is nice to know that there are no plans to discontinue any brands (stop the “Elmer T Lee is being discontinued” rumors) and that there is sufficient supplies of Blanton’s, Weller and Sazerac. All 3 of these whiskies are among my favorite “everyday” whiskies. read more

Single Oak Project Almost Complete

The always innovative Buffalo Trace is ready to release the final round of their Single Oak Project. This is BT’s quest to find the perfect bourbon based on mash bill, entry proof, stave seasoning, grain size, warehouse, barrel char and tree cut.

Buffalo Trace Named “Brand Innovator of the Year”

FRANKFORT, FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY (Oct. 1, 2014) – Buffalo Trace Distillery received two coveted awards at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky America Awards 2015, and also two “highly commended” awards.

Named “Brand Innovator of the Year,” Buffalo Trace was cited for this prestigious award for its quest to find the perfect whisky through its Experimental Collection and the building of its Warehouse X.  Buffalo Trace’s Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley was also named Distillery Manager of the Year. read more

Retail Price for 2014 BTAC

While the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection hasn’t seen the same price inflation as Pappy Van Winkle bourbonr’s are still paying a premium whether it’s at retail or on the secondary market. Buffalo Traces set the retail price for the entire Antique collection at $80 for 2014. This is a slight increase over 2013 but not by much. read more

History of the BTAC

The Buffalo Trace Distillery releases some of the best bourbons and rye whiskies every fall under their Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Currently, the BTAC is made up of 3 bourbons and 2 rye whiskies, George T. Stagg, William Larue Weller, Eagle Rare 17, Sazerac 18 and Thomas H. Handy. An analytic review of the BTAC barrel proof releases

Every fall since 2002 Buffalo Trace has released their Antique Collection. While the Antique Collection has evolved over the years there are three staple barrel proof whiskies (2 bourbons and 1 rye) in the collection: George T. Stagg, William LaRue Weller and Thomas H.
