Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Release Cheat Sheet

UPDATED: ECBP Cheat Sheet

In the fall of 2013 Heaven Hill Distillery released the first Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (ECBP) which quickly became one of the hottest bourbons in the market. ECBP is a 12 year old uncut, unfiltered bourbon which Heaven Hill releases once a quarter. Aside from the great flavor and high proof what make ECBP even greater is it’s retail price is between $40-$55. With such a low price it’s hard to find a better bourbon for the money. That’s assuming you’re able to find a bottle in the first place 🙂

Since there is a new release each quarter it can be confusing trying to keep track of each release. That is why I put together an ECBP cheat sheet so you know exactly which release you’re enjoying.

Check out my review of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof release #1 here

Tasting Notes from Heaven Hill:

Color: Deep Amber
Aroma: Caramel with oak, fruit notes of apple and orange
Taste: Caramel, vanilla and butterscotch along with spices of black pepper and cinnamon in the back of the palate
Finish: Nice layered finish of all flavors; fades slowly with a hint of cool spearmint at the most lingering end

Assuming the laser codes on the bottom of the bottles mean what I’m guessing they mean, the #2 and #3 batches I got were both bottled in May (20th week) of 2013: 42 21 020 13 06:32 and 42 21 020 13 08:34, respectfully.

The #5 batch bottles I have would then be from about August of 2013.

Knowing this, the timing of bottling to actually seeing the product on the shelves (at least in this market) is 6-9 months or two to three quarters behind.

Having some of the 6th Release as I write this (I’m assuming it’s #6): it’s @137 Proof. Got the last bottle on the shelf (for now) in my local store. Great stuff!!
